Whatapaka Marae is a Poukai Marae for Tainui iwi of Manukau and Lower Waikato, where the hau kainga are Iwi members of Ngai Tai and Ngati Tamaoho. Whatapaka is one of over 120 Marae represented by the collective body of Nga Marae Topu.

Whaiora Marae is a pan tribal, urban Maori Marae situated in Otara, Manukau. Whaiora is part of the Catholic Parish, of which St John the Evangelist Church is the centre, however the marae is open to all regardless of denomination and ethnicity.

Te Toku Toru Tapu, the whare karakia was built in 1911 by Tete Paraone, husband of Rahera. They built the original homestead 200metres from the urupa in 1912 and then in 1914 built Ngati Kohua.
